Road Ministry Plans Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The government is working on a greenfield expressway between Delhi and Mumbai, which would have a new alignment and pass through less developed areas falling in the region, said road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari. Giving details of the work done by his ministry in the financial year just gone by, Gadkari said about 9,830 km of national highways were built at the cost of Rs 1.2 lakh crore. “Instead of expanding lanes of existing highways, we are focusing on creating greenfield ones as the cost of land acquisition is lesser for a greenfield project that passes through comparatively lesser developed areas. The new alignment is being identified after which the cost will be decided.”
