The Art Of Scaffolding: Layher Event Systems Ideal For Big Event
Layher Scaffolding Systems Pvt. Ltd.
The brand promise made by the German company Layher, is the expression of a brand philosophy that the company has been living by for over 70 years. This includes - more speed, more safety, more proximity, more simplicity and more future, i.e., the values with which Layher strengthens the customers’ competitiveness in the long term. With innovative systems and solutions, the company is working all the time on making scaffolding construction simpler, more economical and, above all, safer.
The Layher Event system is a construction kit which can be used to erect a wide variety of stages and stands. Layher Event systems offer the option to choose between different sizes, where the systems differ from each other in terms of the ground plan (layout) and particularly, in the design of the stands. The removable plastic corners on the Event decks further, assist in constructing practically all variants of the desired stages and stands.

The width of the stage decks is a practical distinguishing feature and the basis for identification of the modules. The Event decks up to 2.07 m and 2.57 m in length and can bear a load of 5 kN/m². The removable plastic corners ensure the vertical tubes can pass through platform level if required. Also, the coated plywood board is braced with aluminium rungs.
Application Of Layher Allround And Event Stage For Mahamastakabhisheka
Scope Of The Work: The installation of scaffolding and temporary platform for Mahamastakabhisheka, which is the head anointing ceremony performed once in 12 years to the 57 ft tall monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali at Shravanabelagola, Hassan District. Lord Bahubali’s statue was built circa 981 A.D. and is one of the largest free-standing statues in the world.
Allround Scaffolding Structure Behind Bahubali For Mahabhisheka
Shravanabelagola is a veritable picture postcard of India’s history and heritage spanning the centuries; it is nestled by the Vindhyagiri and Chandragiri Hills, protected by the monolith Bhagwan Bahubali, and home to over 2,300 years of Jain heritage. The main structure for Mahamastakabhisheka is constructed just behind Lord Bahubali on top of the Vindhyagiri Hill.
The main scaffolding structures are used by devotees/pilgrims for Mahabhisheka. Thus, approx. 400 sq. m area has been considered for construction of scaffolding structure with two platforms at shoulder level and head level. The shoulder levels are connected with two cantilevers, at left and right side of statue to make Mahabhisheka from both the sides. The head level has cantilever just above it to make Mahabhisheka from head level, and maximum number of devotees/pilgrims have made Mahabhisheka from head level.
Further, the design of heavy duty cantilever has been considered to bear heavy load during Mahabhisheka. The existing floor area available is double story monolithic structure supported with stone beam, and slab resting on column. The bottom main existing monolithic structure is also supported with scaffolding to provide additional stability to the existing structure during Mahabhisheka. The total height of scaffold structure is approx. 21.2 m from ground level, which is unsupported from the existing structure. Also, the façade of main structure, which is made out of aluminium with beautiful symbols of different colours, increases beauty of the statue.
The main structure behind the statue is well-designed to bear the load of umbrella resting on the top of scaffold, devotees/pilgrims, and other live and dead weight coming on structure. The additional load against horizontal force and wind force are also considered in the design.
Layher scaffolding is used for construction of lift for devotees/pilgrims to reach up to top shoulder and head level. An additional scaffold structure is constructed to support the two lifts, the capacity of which is 1 ton. The allround scaffold supports the lift against wind force and horizontal force coming on structure at top of the hill. The lifts are used to transport materials used for Mahabhisheka and devotees/pilgrims up to top of head levels.
Stair Tower 500
The main structure is connected with two 16-standard/leg stair towers 500 for access to main scaffold structure for Mahabhisheka. The width of both the stair towers is 1.57 m, and has a landing at every 2.0 m height with proper fall preventing systems. One stair tower is used for entrance and the other for exit of devotees/pilgrims during Mahabhisheka. The load bearing capacity of stair tower is also 5 kN/m².
Event Stage/Deck (Event Platform)
The Event deck is used for construction of platform at shoulder level and head level. It has been well designed to bear a load of 5 kN/m², which includes devotees/pilgrims and storage of materials for Mahabhisheka. Further, the special design of cantilever on both the levels is able to bear more than 5 kN/m².
The substructure of the Layher Event systems is created from Layher all-round scaffolding. The Event decks are held by the Event transom of aluminium section with connecting wedge heads of galvanized steel. Moreover, the clamping lock of spring steel connects the Event deck to the Event transom and acts as a lock against lift-off. Thus, all safety measures are considered for fall protection of devotees/pilgrims during Mahabhisheka.
As a consequence of heavy load bearing capacity of the structure, it successfully supported against the heavy crowed gathered during Mahabhisheka, 2018. The approx. area cover for Mahabhisheka, 2018 was 2,660 sq.m. Further, the entire area was divided into three parts, i.e., backside of statue approx. 360 sq.m, VIP Gallery approx. 650 sq.m, and front of statue 1,650 sq.m.
