Civil Engineering & Construction Review: What is your expectation from EXCON’19?

Jasmeet Singh: EXCON is the biggest platform for players in the Construction Equipment (CE) industry to showcase their products and services. Anything linked with construction and infrastructure development, be it in terms of products, services, technology, automation, finance, access to global markets, etc., are displayed at the show.

In EXCON 2019, we are hopeful of witnessing a greater participation from all the large OEMs, importers and international associations. The five-day event will draw attention of over 70,000 business visitors. We expect about 1,250 exhibitors, with 350 foreign exhibitors from more than 21 countries. Delegations from overseas will also be participating. All in all, we think, EXCON is growing bigger, better, and exciting with every edition.

EXCON 2019 is expected to be a significant opportunity for us to showcase the evolution in the industry, brought by Telematics and Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data as well. It will help bring the troika of industry, Academia and the Government under one roof, to leverage these emerging trends. Further, the components industry for CE will be well represented, as it is an equal stakeholder in this transformation.

From a technology standpoint, we expect EXCON 2019 to attract new talent, contractors, manufacturers and investors, thereby enabling them to witness the global benchmark set by various construction equipment companies through their exclusive products and offerings.

CE&CR: What are your plans for the show? What will be your focus of display?

Jasmeet Singh: As always, JCB will present an exciting and innovative line up of machines at this year’s EXCON. We will showcase class leading product solutions which exhibit innovation in design, performance, efficiency and safety, including the integration of digital technology in our products.

The theme of EXCON 2019 is Smart i-tech India@ 75. Showcasing our digital focus, we will continue to build on our ‘Intelli’ series along with our exciting new range of technologies in EXCON 2019.

JCB India has been focused on innovation and technologically-backed solutions, and this year shall be no different. There is going to be a thrust in digital technologies and their integration into new products.

We will also showcase the entire range of our world-class JCB products, starting from the compact range such as Mini Excavator, Skid Steer Loader to mid-range machines such as Backhoe Loaders, Telehandlers, Tracked Excavators, Compactors, Skid Steer Loaders and Wheel Loaders. All these products have been designed and engineered to cater to the changing needs and increasing demand across different segments.

JCB will display its range of consumer products, parts and product support. Apart from this, visitors will get to experience world class technology in action at our stand in terms of IoT.

CE&CR: How effective has EXCON been as a platform for helping construction equipment manufacturers meet the challenges facing them? How has the show helped the industry players identify new opportunities and make the best use of them?

Jasmeet Singh: EXCON is definitely the biggest exhibition of CE in India and South Asia, witnessing the largest footfall of industry delegations and visitor participation. The exhibition is growing with each edition, and this year the event is expected to have almost 70,000 visitors. It is the festival of Earthmoving and CE Industry and is unique, as it has all stakeholders at the same place.

JCB has been participating as one of the largest exhibitors at EXCON. At this platform, we connect with customers and showcase the entire range of our products and technologies.

It is a platform to exhibit products and services that have the potential to drive growth in the future. EXCON gives us an opportunity to reiterate our commitment to the Indian market. The exhibition also plays an instrumental role in bringing the entire industry together. It enables us to reach the customers and all other stakeholders together.

CE&CR: Being a global company, what difference have you noticed in the use of machinery in India and rest of the countries?

Jasmeet Singh: The difference in the use of machinery exists pertaining to different geographies and demographics. However, no difference is observed in the product per se.

For example, when we look at the usage of Backhoe Loaders, it works for much lower number of hours in a year in Europe as compared to India; so, there is much more usage in India than the other countries. The same machine is used for varied terrains, ranging from snow laden mountains to arid deserts and from rugged slopes and hills to level plains.

CE&CR: What special services do you offer to retain existing customers?

Jasmeet Singh: With a legacy spanning four decades in India, JCB has always remained committed to its customers and their needs. Over the years, the Company has made significant investments to ensure best services to the customers, offering a full range of CE products.

Our production strategies are in resonance with the ongoing and foreseen future consumer demands. Taking into factor, evolving customer requirements, JCB India has continuously enhanced reliability, performance, ease of use, safety, serviceability and design of its machines. Being the pioneer in introducing automation in equipment manufacturing, JCB India has launched various solutions that have made it a stand-out in the industry, all of which have been developed in-house.

JCB LiveLink is an example of this integration that benefits customers in better fleet management, enabling remote monitoring and management of the machines. It has been a game changer in the Earthmoving and CE industry. Additionally, we have introduced a series of smart machines - the ‘Intelli’ series, for providing smart and seamless experience to our customers.

These innovations that were developed keeping in mind the evolving customer demands, have helped us gain and retain customers.

CE&CR: How does your company envision the EXCON’19?

Jasmeet Singh: Conferences by CII, ICEMA and BAI, along with deliberations on trending subjects will aid in integrating the industry with global markets.

EXCON will have leading construction equipment manufacturers from around the world display their range of state-of-the-art CE. Witnessing them ‘live’ will enable stakeholders to ‘touch & feel’ the products and the technology embedded in them.

EXCON will give an in-depth view of the Indian market for CE, in addition to opportunities for joint ventures and technology transfers. The exhibition will open avenues for supplies from foreign stakeholders into India. And as many manufacturers today build world-class equipment in the country, it will also help give a fillip to exports.

From a technology standpoint, we expect EXCON 2019 to attract new talent, contractors, manufacturers and investors, thereby enabling them to witness the global benchmark set by various construction equipment companies through their exclusive products and offerings.
