Mr. V.G. Sakthikumar
Schwing Stetter India Private Limited
Civil Engineering & Construction Review: What is your expectation from EXCON’19?
V.G. Sakthikumar: Schwing Stetter India launches a bouquet of new products and innovations in every EXCON. This time too, we are bringing many new products across concreting, road making, earthmoving, material handling and material processing segments.
CE&CR: What are your plans for the show? What will be your focus of display?
V.G. Sakthikumar: A range of new products will be launched at the Schwing Stetter India outdoor stall OD 21 and OD 37 in 3,344 sq. m space, orange lot. We will be displaying most of our equipment with smart technologies. Further, as we realized that we need to spend more time with the customers on the technology itself, we have booked for the very first time, a 12 sq. m door stall, AI 20 in Hall 4 to demonstrate our capabilities in digitisation and automation; incidentally, this hall is dedicated for Smart i – Tech – Next Gen India@75, the theme being intelligent, internet, interconnected, innovation and infrastructure.
CE&CR: How effective has EXCON been as a platform for helping construction equipment manufacturers meet the challenges facing them? How has the show helped the industry players identify new opportunities and make the best use of them?
V.G. Sakthikumar: EXCON is a construction industry festival where all the stakeholders are present, like the project authorities, Government department officials, equipment manufacturers, component manufacturers, financial services, consultants, project management companies, etc. It is supported by Builders Association of India, various equipment manufacturer associations and user associations from across the globe. Further, EXCON provides the visitors the opportunity to interact conveniently. Every edition, there is increased participation from component manufacturers and overseas exhibitors apart from domestic equipment manufacturers; this gives tremendous opportunity for the industry to find new vendors and new buyers. Thus, EXCON as an exhibition is growing in every edition.
CE&CR: In this age of tough competition, what is your recent point of focus?
V.G. Sakthikumar: Schwing Stetter has always been innovating new products that are identified from the customer’s project sites. We are focused on this aspect of the business and work rigorously on customer satisfaction, which ultimately gives us customers’ preference.
CE&CR: Where do you see the construction equipment market in the next five years?
V.G. Sakthikumar: The construction equipment industry peaked in 2018 and we expect the industry to return to the growth trajectory very soon with the incentives announced by the Government for the announced projects. We hope it goes into the implementation mode, which is very important for the equipment business to grow again.
CE&CR: Being a global company, what difference have you noticed in the use of machinery in India and rest of the countries?
V.G. Sakthikumar: The long term potential for the construction equipment industry is very bright. Therefore, revival is a key factor. Skill operator’s requirement in India is a key differentiator. Skilled operators are a basic requisite in developed countries to operate construction machinery; whereas in India, skilling has just reached the point of focus through NSDC – IESC and ICEMA. In terms of individual machine capacities, we are still at the entry level of the machines. So, we hope with more project coming up with short gestation period, productivity becomes a key issue and the market migrates to bigger capacity machines.
CE&CR: What special services do you offer to retain existing customers?
