Upcoming Sabarimala Airport will have Kerala’s Longest Runway

The revised techno-economic feasibility report (TEFR) of the proposed Sabarimala airport envisages the longest runway for the project when compared to the already existing three international airports in the state.

As per the TEFR submitted to the ministry of civil aviation last week, the proposed Sabarimala airport planned in Cheruvally estate in Erumely in Kottayam will have a 3,500 m long and 45 m wide runway, with 7.5 m of shoulders on either side. At the same time, the existing runways in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi are 3,400 m each and that in Kannur airport is 3,050 m with a provision for extending it up to 4,000 m.

Surat, diamond polishing and textiles hub, has completed the maximum number of projects. Gandhinagar, the state capital, has completed the least number of projects so far, according to the data accompanying a written reply by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to a question by BJP MPs Rajesh Chudasama and CR Paatil in Lok Sabha.
