UltraTech Cement Aims For 100% Renewable Energy Usage By 2050
UltraTech Cement Ltd. announced its commitment to 100% renewable energy usage by 2050 as part of Climate Group’s RE100 initiative at Climate Week NYC 2021.
Kailash Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement said: “We have made tremendous progress in scaling up the use of green energy in our operations. The commitment to move to 100% renewable energy to meet our electrical energy requirements by 2050 is both a reflection of our confidence on the progress we have made, as well as our commitment to overcome the challenges ahead. “With us now joining the RE100 group, UltraTech will become part of a high-profile global campaign that advocates for a strong business case in transitioning to renewable energy sources in building a decarbonized economy,” he said.
India To Achieve 450 GW Renewable Energy Installed Capacity By 2030
MNRE said that India is set to achieve 450 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2030. From October 6-8 during the Climate and Biodiversity Week at Expo 2020 Dubai, MNRE, in partnership with FICCI, organised a series of events. At the MNRE-FICCI SECI event, R.K. Singh, Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy said, “India is already ahead of what we pledged in our Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Already 39% of our installed capacity is from non-fossil based sources. By 2022 we will reach our target of 40%”.
He also said, “We are launching the Green Corridor Phase 2 and we are generally expanding transmission to put in place systems for renewable power evacuation from sites where irradiation is high, or wind speed is high. India Has embarked upon an exciting journey and is treading where no one has ventured before, and SECI will continue to work towards meeting the ambition of 450 GW by 2030.”
India Maintains 3rd Rank In RE Country Attractiveness Index
India has maintained the third rank in the Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index released by consultancy firm EY. India ranked third in the 58th edition of EY’s ‘Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index’ (RECAI), which ranks the world’s top 40 markets (nations) on the attractiveness of their renewable energy investment and deployment opportunities, an EY statement said.
Somesh Kumar, partner and national leader, Power & Utilities, EY India, said, “In August 2021, India witnessed a watershed moment in combating the climate crisis. The total installed renewable energy capacity (excluding large hydro) crossed the milestone of 100 GW.”
