Mapei Solutions In A Challenging Situation
A Capsule Hotel also popularly known as Pod Hotel was first developed in Japan, which features a large number of many small bed-sized rooms known as capsules. Capsule hotels provide cheap, basic overnight accommodation for guests who do not require or who cannot afford larger, more expensive rooms offered by more conventional hotels.
In India, Western Railway (IRCTC) came up with an idea to bring in the POD concept retiring rooms in the Mumbai Central Railway station premises. In the width of 2500 sq ft area, 48 no. of POD placement would have been possible unless the MS structure loft concept came up. Bonding with PCC with minimum thickness (upto 35 mm) and compressive strength 30 MPa.
High strength PCC was required for intact and sound flooring but to give PCC, minimum 75-100 mm thickness was required to gain the required strength. This challenging situation was solved by using Mapei products -
- Eco Prim Grip for bonding on MS structure.
- Keralastic T for MS ladder tile fixing solutions.
- Topcem, a special fast setting hydraulic binder for the preparation of normal setting and fast drying (4 days) screeds with controlled shrinkage.

Eco Prim Grip – Multi-purpose, ready-to-use bonding promoter primer with a very low emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC) for render, smoothing and levelling compounds and adhesives for ceramic tiles. Eco Prim Grip may be used to improve the bond of all types of cement, gypsum and lime-based plasters on substrates made from concrete, brickwork, vibro-compressed concrete blocks, lightweight blocks and gypsum. Eco Prim Grip is also suitable for improving the bond of adhesives for ceramics, smoothing and levelling compounds on non-absorbent surfaces, such as ceramic, terrazzo and natural stone floors.
Keralastic T - Two-component, high-performance, polyurethane adhesives for ceramic tiles and stone material.
Used Indoor and outdoor, bonding of wall and floor ceramic tiles, stone material mosaics, etc. on: screeds, renders, concrete, asphalt, wood, metal, PVC, reinforced polyester, fibre-cement, gypsum, gypsum board, gypsum panels, etc.
Topcem is a special hydraulic binder which, when mixed with graded aggregates and water, can produce mortars that can harden in approximately 24 hours and dry in approximately 4 days. Usually used Formation of bonded, unbonded and floating screeds on both existing and new concrete prior to the installation of wood, PVC, linoleum, ceramic tiles, natural stone, carpet or any other flooring where rapid drying is required for short installation times.
