Govt Plans ₹ 91K Cr Investment For Development Of Airports In India
Investments worth ₹ 91,000 crore will be made for developing existing and new airports in different parts of the country, as several measures are being taken to boost the civil aviation sector, the government issued a statement. The government has accorded in-principle approval for setting up 21 greenfield airports and 8 of them, including Pakyong (Sikkim), Kannur (Kerala), Orvakal (Andhra Pradesh), Kalaburagi (Karnataka) and Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh), are now operational.
In written replies to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh said “Three Public-Private Partnership (PPP) airports at Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru have undertaken major expansion plan to the tune of ₹ 30,000 crore by 2025.”Additionally, ₹ 36,000 crore has been planned for investment in the development of new greenfield airports across the country under PPP mode,” Singh said.
Centre Approves Renuka Dam Project In HP
The Union cabinet has approved the Renuka Dam storage project as a part of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Saknhayee Yojana (PMKSY) on Giri River, a tributary of Yamuna River, in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister said that the project envisages construction of a 148m high rockfill dam, which would store the monsoon discharges which otherwise go unused, leading to formation of a 24km long reservoir. He said that live storage of dam would be 498 million cubic meters which would be used for supplying drinking water at 23 cubic meters per second to NCT of Delhi.
He said that it will also generate 200 million units of electricity in a surface power house with 40MW installed capacity which would be utilized by the state government. He said that the construction of project was expected to start by December next year and would be completed in six years.
